Speech and Fundamentals of Speech

This guide links you to library resources to help you do research for Speech courses at CVTC.

Save Your Work

Saving your research, notes, and sources as you work on your project means you won't lose anything or waste time looking for it again later.  Use whatever works for you, but whatever you do, make sure to save often!

Below are a few methods suggested by librarians at CVTC.

In Library Search

  1. Sign In, located in the top right corner of Library Search.  You will know you are signed if your name appears.

  2. SAVE any article you want to save by clicking the bookmark icon next to that item

  3. View saved sources any time by signing in and clicking "Saved" from your dashboard.

Permalinks

Don't copy the URL from the top of your browser to share or keep a list of links for your research.  These are often non-stable and may break.

Instead, always look for a permalink/copy link, these do not change and will bring you back to your source reliably.  In Library Search you will see this option under "Share" tools.

OneDrive

You have free OneDrive storage through CVTC.

  1. Go to Student Portal and sign in with your Chippewa Valley Technical College username and authentication credentials.

  2. Save your documents often and verify the location is your OneDrive.

Save and share files from your one drive, learn more about using OneDrive.

On Your Computer

Save PDFs of articles and other research documents on your computer.

  1. In Library Search, click "Download"

  2. Find the Download icon (usually in the upper right corner), or right click and select "Save as", or (Ctrl+S)

  3. Choose where to save your document (sometimes files are automatically saved to Downloads depending on your computer settings).  Choose wherever makes sense for you, but make sure to be consistent and save all documents and sources for your research project in the same place.

Citations

There are a few ways to save your citations:

  • In Library Search, use the Citation button (quotation marks) and copy this into your document.  (Note: you can change the citation style from APA, to MLA, Chicago etc.)
