Tips for finding company information
- Private companies: Finding information, especially financial data, on private companies and subsidiaries can be difficult. Newspapers, magazines, journals can be valuable sources. Don't expect to find the detailed financial reports that you can find for public companies.
- Company websites: Remember to check the company website, keeping in mind that they will generally provide information that presents their company in a positive light.
- Public libraries: Check your local public library as they often they have additional business resources.

EDGARPublic companies are required to file financial and operational information with the Securities and Exchange Commission. This database provides free access to this information. In addition to finding company financial information, EDGAR can be useful for finding executive compensation information, lists of public companies by state or country, and lists of public companies by industry. Some useful forms included are:
