Test & College Prep

What is the HESI?

Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) is an exam required for admission into select health programs at CVTC. The test assesses knowledge in math, anatomy & physiology, grammar, reading comprehension, and vocabulary, and helps determine preparedness for the program.

Note: If you don't pass one or more of the tests, there is free, personalized feedback and skills practice available in your HESI - Evolve account to help you study for a retake exam.

CVTC's Academic Support department offers several free test prep options for the HESI.

More Information

  • It is recommended that students take the HESI after completing General Anatomy & Physiology. You should meet with your academic advisor to discuss the admission requirements and to create an academic plan.
  • The maximum allowed time for the test is 4 hours.
  • Students can take the sections in any order.
  • CVTC requires scores of 75 in all areas of the assessment.
  • Students have three attempts to pass the assessment, and there is a 30-day waiting period between each attempt. Students only need to retest in the areas in which the required score was not met. CVTC will use the highest score from each area and apply it toward the admission requirement. If you change programs and have previously attempted the HESI test without success, those attempts are counted.
  • Test results and remediation are available on the Evolve website approximately 2-3 days after testing for students who did not achieve 75 or higher in one or more areas. To access remediation, log in to Evolve at https://evolve.elsevier.com/student. Contact Elsevier if you have trouble accessing your remediation.
