Citations in Library Search

Citations are essential when completing research. Fundamentally, we cite our sources because information is the intellectual property of the creator and we need to give them credit for their work. If we don't, that's called plagiarism - and it is theft. Beyond this, it's best practice to cite your sources because it creates a research trail that can be followed and it provides evidence of the information you present.

To cite materials you find in Library Search, click the Cite icon in the record menu - it looks like a set of quotation marks. In the Style dropdown menu, select your preferred style - check with your instructor if you're not sure which to use. Double-check important information like names and dates. Click Copy to clipboard and paste where needed. Be sure that all formatting has remained consistent once you have pasted the citation.

For questions about citations, please contact the Library.
