Fines & Fees Information

Overview

A receipt is emailed to your CVTC or MORE-affiliated email at the time of checkout. An additional courtesy email is sent reminding you of the due date as it approaches. You can also view what items you have checked out and when they are due through your online library account.

CVTC Library does not assess overdue fines on most past due books, audiobooks, films, video games, or library of things materials. Due to high demand and student requests, fines may be assessed on late technology. Materials borrowed through MORE member libraries or interlibrary loan may also be assessed overdue fines depending on the lending library’s policies.

Technology may be checked out to students only after an agreement form has been completed. Technology checkout is designed as a temporary solution for when a student needs access to important technology such as laptops and iPads to complete coursework. Students are responsible for securing access to technology as a long-term solution. Long-term options may include purchasing technology, using computers at CVTC, or visiting your local public library.

Damaged Items

If you have an item and it becomes damaged, the library will assess and determine if any replacement/repair charges are necessary. Damage to technology such as iPads and laptops is reviewed by the CVTC IT department. You are responsible for all replacement, repair, or cleaning costs due to a potential biohazard. This can include smoke smells, liquids, or physical debris that interrupts the device from being checked out by the next user. Any costs associated with damaged materials will be added to your student library account.

Lost or Stolen Item

If you think you have lost an item or if an item becomes stolen, you may contact the library to work out a replacement option.  Stolen items should be reported to local law enforcement. If nothing is done, once an item is overdue by 7 days, it is billed to the user and a replacement fee is charged to their account.  After an additional 30 day period of inactivity, the replacement fee along with any overdue fees associated with the item will be forwarded to the Cashier’s Office for collection.

A full refund of the replacement fee will be given if the lost item is returned in satisfactory condition before it is forwarded to the Cashier’s Office.  Overdue fees (if applicable) will still be enforced.

Anytime your library account balance is equal to or greater than $10, or if you have billed items, your library account will be blocked from checking out additional library materials until the account balance is decreased.

Payment Plans

If you would like to set up a payment plan to pay off your library account balance please contact the library.

Unpaid Fines

Fines and fees which remain unpaid for an extended period of time will be sent to the Cashier’s Office for collection. The Cashier’s Office will put a hold on your registration and all academic records until the fine is paid off. High balances will also be sent to Collections for recovery.

Fine Appeals

If you feel you are being unjustly fined, or if you have extenuating circumstances regarding overdue items, you may submit a fine appeal.  The fine appeal form is available online and linked in your library notices. Paper appeal forms are also available at the library desk. Fine appeals will not be accepted for balances less than $10.00.
